WINEMAKING NOTES

The fruit for this wine is a blend of Mendoza, Clone 15 and Clone 95 Chardonnay, which was grown in the sandy silt soils of the lower terrace at Askerne Vineyard. The fruit was hand harvested, sorted then pressed with fractions kept separate. The wine was fermented and aged for 9 months in French oak barrels, 15% new, 19 % 1 year old, 35% 2 yrs old & the rest older oak. Lees stirring was undertaken to naturally preserve and add structure to this wine. 25% of the wine underwent malolactic conversion.

 TASTING NOTES

Barrel fermentation and aging on lees has produced this generous, well rounded wine which has a good structure and firm palate. Passionfruit, quince and melon aromas dominate on the nose with hints of grapefruit and smoky oak. The palate displays tropical fruits, quince and citrus characters. Smoky oak and barrel fermented characters contribute to a weighty Chardonnay that will cellar well and reward aging. Aging potential 3-5 years. The wine will complement fish, chicken and pork dishes.
