2009 RESERVE CHARDONNAY
The fruit for this wine is comprised of 50 % Mendoza, 25 % Clone 15 and 25 % Clone 95 Chardonnay, which was grown in the stony sandy soils of the lower terrace at Askerne Vineyard. The fruit was harvested between 24th March and 7th April at an average of 23 brix. The fruit was hand-harvested, sorted, then whole bunch pressed with fractions kept separate. The wine was fermented and aged for 9 months in French oak barriques, 75 % of which were new, 25% one year old. Lees stirring was undertaken to develop mealy, nutty characters. 25 % of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation.
Residual sugar ˂1g/l
Reserve wines are only produced in outstanding vintages and this is our third Reserve Chardonnay. Barrel fermentation and aging on lees has produced this generous, full bodied wine that displays stone fruit, papaya and melon aromas with toasty oak and marzipan overtones. The palate features white flesh peach and tropical fruits with a long, sweet textural finish.
